Hi, I'm Dana Maxfield

Thank you for taking the time to visit my campaign page.  I am a Senate Candidate in Chittenden County, Vermont. I was born in Burlington in 1985, living in Richmond for my first 3 years. After my father took the vice-president position in the family business we moved to Forestdale for a year before settling in Pittsford when I was 5 years old. I have a large extended family, spread throughout much of the State. I spent a considerable amount of time enjoying the country life at my grandparents’ house in Addison and a lot of time in the “big city” of South Burlington at my uncle’s house, where he hosted several family gatherings. Some of my fondest memories are of fishing with my grandfather in Otter Creek at the family camp in Panton, and going hunting with my grandfather, father, brother, and uncles on Snake Mountain in Addison. Growing up I would help my parents plant in the garden, cut the grass, and generally help out with any other projects that came up. I was raised to work hard, and that is a trait that has stuck with me all of my life—I always seem to have something to get done around my home and have no shortage of projects I’m always working on as time permits.

I had my first job at 13 mowing lawns for 2 summers. At 15 I started washing dishes at a local restaurant part time, while also working part time for my family’s business. I got my first full time job as an automotive technician at a local car dealership in my last year of high school. After leaving the dealership in Rutland, I then took a job in Williston as an office furniture installer. After a year of commuting an hour and forty five minutes each way, I decided to take a position with the family company doing marketing, and held a supervisory position. I joined the Air Force a month after my twenty-first birthday. I had originally wanted to join when I graduated from high school, but my younger sister, Sara, fell ill with leukemia. Since I was a perfect match for bone marrow and plasma, there was no way I was going anywhere but by her side. I spent a significant amount of time at Duke Children’s hospital with her, proudly going through a bone marrow harvest, and apheresis. Although Sara had gone into remission after the bone marrow transplant, soon after she relapsed and then passed away after about a yearlong battle.

I spent the first two years in the Air Force stationed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany—which was my first choice on my “wish list”. I got to travel around Germany and some other countries and take in the sights and culture. I was then reassigned to Great Falls, Montana where I earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. In addition to my position of Shift Supervisor, I was also the Facility Safety Manager—being in charge of daily, weekly, and monthly safety checks and evaluations, and training staff on certain safety protocol. After completing my military service obligation, I returned home to Vermont. Within my first year of returning home, I purchased my house in Milton, and returned to school full time. I worked hard and made the Dean’s List most, if not all, semesters and eventually earned my degree. I have now been back in Vermont, and living in Milton for Seven years. I have a beautiful wife, Amy, and a smart, quick-witted six year old son. I currently work as a sales specialist in the agricultural industry.

I decided to run for Senate because I feel as though we are getting away from some of the values and customs we’ve held pride in here in Vermont for generations. Taxes have gotten so out of hand that the average Vermonter feels they need to flee the State to go live somewhere more affordable. High taxes are driving some businesses to close up shop, like my own family’s business, or move to more business friendly States. Most of all, I feel like the voices of the people of Vermont are falling on deaf ears in Montpelier. I am an average Vermonter, this State is my home, and I want people to flourish, not flee. I want to bring a voice for the people back to Montpellier and help set this State back on the right track.

Thank you for taking the time to learn a little about me and my story! I hope you will reach out to me if you have any questions, and I truly hope you will support me in my journey to the State House.
